Vocal Sight Reading

Play the cadence first — I – IV – V – I, major or minor to match the key you chose — which is what tells your ear where Do is. Then sing the line, and only afterwards play it back to see whether you were right.

Every line is quarter notes and nothing else: the exercise is pitch, not rhythm. It starts on Do and ends on one, so you always know where you began and where you are meant to land. The largest leap is the difficulty knob — stepwise is the easiest thing to sing, and the wider you set it the more the line may jump. Small intervals stay the rule at any setting, big ones get rarer the bigger they are, and a leap upward is rarer than the same leap down.
