1st–7th 5th–10th

Fingers 2–3–4–1 on the E string, climbing 7 positions from the 1st to the 7th, in E major.

Each position gets four systems — the same four notes as half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes — and then one bar that shifts the first finger up a step into the next position. Every slur is half a bar long, so the bow keeps one speed while the notes underneath it double in pace.
